Highland Gatherings & Events 2020
Celebrating Scottish & Celtic Culture & Heritage
What is a Highland Gathering?
A Highland Gathering is an event held to celebrate Scottish and Celtic culture and heritage, especially that of the Scottish Highlands.
Certain aspects of the gatherings are so well known as to have become emblematic of Scotland, such as the pipe bands and wearing of kilts.
While centred around competitions in piping and drumming and highland dancing, the gathering also include entertainment and exhibits related to other aspects of Scottish and Gaelic culture.
16th March 2020
Dear piping and drumming community,
In light of President Ramaphosa’s address last night and as a responsible organisation with the safety of our community in mind, all gatherings, competitions and PBASA events will be postponed until further notice. The Vaal, Amanzimtoti and Cornwall competitions are immediately affected.
We will continue to reassess our events as and when further information is forthcoming from the government in terms of when we can safely resume large scale events, and will where possible, reschedule all events and competitions to later in the year.
We appreciate your patience and understanding over the next few weeks as we navigate these uncharted waters together as a community. We will be in regular communication with you all as developments arise and have no doubt that once this crisis is over we will be back stronger than ever.
